Pandemic & Remote Learning

Learning, care and connection — in school and beyond.

Supporting learning and staying connected

Being in school is important for children’s learning, friendships, wellbeing and sense of belonging. We want every child to enjoy the full experience of school life.

This page brings together links that may support learning beyond the classroom and preserves a record of the way our Sacred Heart community learned and cared for one another during the COVID-19 pandemic.

When remote education may be considered

The Department for Education advises that attendance in school should remain the priority. Remote education may be considered in exceptional circumstances when it has been decided that a child cannot attend school and the child is well enough and able to continue learning.

Circumstances and needs differ, so families should speak with school about their child’s situation. We can discuss suitable support, including any access or additional learning needs.

Working with families

If your child is unable to attend school, please contact us so that we can understand the circumstances and discuss the next steps together.

Please also let us know if access to a device, internet connection or learning materials is difficult.

Supporting individual needs

Children may need different kinds of support to understand, access and participate in learning. We encourage families to speak with us about their child’s needs.

Our information for parents includes details of inclusion and SEND support at Sacred Heart.

Read the Department for Education guidance

The Department for Education’s guidance explains how schools can maintain the ability to provide remote education when attendance is not possible. It is non-statutory guidance for schools in England and may also be useful to parents and carers.

Help for families

Keeping safe online

Encourage children to use school resources safely, keep account details private and speak to a trusted adult if something online makes them uncomfortable.

Our online safety page brings together information for children, staff and families.

We are here to help

If you have a question about learning, attendance, wellbeing or access to a resource, please speak to your child’s class teacher or contact the school office.

We value our partnership with families and will work with you to find the right next step.
