Every member of #TeamSacredHeart is a leader, inspired by the mission.

Our mission team strives to follow the servant leadership principles of Christ. Pope Francis talks about what this looks like in today’s climate.  In his TED talk he reasons:

“Yes, they do hold an enormous responsibility. But the future is, most of all, in the hands of those people who recognise the other as a ‘you’ and themselves as part of an ‘us’. We all need each other.”

Sacred Heart is a two-form entry Roman Catholic primary school in the parish of Sacred Heart of Jesus, Westhoughton.

We are a visible member of the Diocese of Salford family of schools, engaging with and leading training within the Diocesan Department for Education CPDF provision. Our Headteacher is a National & Diocesan Leader of Education and System Support / CPDF Leader and CSI co-ordinator within the Diocesan Department for Education, and is an active member of the National School of Formation, leading the Tabor programme and being a member of the EducareM Leadership Team.

We are active members of the Bolton & Wigan Schools Catholic Education Partnership, made up of 21 Diocese of Salford schools across Bolton & Wigan. Our partner High School is St Joseph’s, Horwich.

Our Headteacher is a Foundation Director of the St Teresa of Calcutta Catholic Academy Trust, which serves this area of our Diocese. This serves to deepen our principles of service and the common good.

Teach Heart Alliance, formerly a National Teaching School and National Support School, is an established provider of School Led Initial Teacher Education, leads CPDF including the specialist and senior/headship National Professional Qualifications, identifies and develops leadership potential and supports other schools. To this end, we work in partnership with a variety of organisations which, in turn, strengthens our school offer. Whilst the national landscape, within the school-led system is changing, Teach Heart Alliance has secured partnerships that will have longevity.

Our established school based Initial Teacher Education Alliance, operated in partnership with both the University of Cumbria and Best Practice Network is made up of over 20 partner schools across Bolton, Wigan, Salford, Bury, Rochdale, Blackburn with Darwen and Lancashire LAs.

We host and take a leading role in a SEERIH (Science & Engineering Education Research and Innovation Hub) / STEAM partnership, working with and providing CPD for our local cluster of schools, focusing on effective learning, teaching and transition within UKS2/KS3.

We are members of the Comino Foundation which offers us opportunities, throughout the academic year, to be involved in research projects, interact with industry, cultural partners and work with a range of ‘in residence’ professionals. Our partnership with the RFK Human Rights Foundation, as their UK Primary Hub, reinforces our curriculum intent and Catholic Social Teaching. We are also a Royal Ballet & Opera House School.

We are members of the SSAT Primary Network, and sit on the Primary Advisory Board.

For me, the great thing about being an involved member of the SSAT Primary Network, is the opportunity to meet leaders and visit schools who truly inspire, through their bespoke approaches to pedagogy, innovation and excellence, at all levels of school leadership. Developing networks with these people promotes deep continuing professional development and formation, which has real impact within our school… Martin Johnson, Sacred Heart RC Primary School, Westhoughton.
