Historical information — 2021

The information below records how Sacred Heart supported children and families during the Spring 2021 lockdown. Timetables, staffing arrangements, contact names, expectations and COVID-19 guidance relate to that time.

During lockdown, Google Classroom was our remote education platform. Each year group had a teacher supporting children attending school and a teacher working with children learning remotely. Work was set each day for submission and feedback.

Daily schedules included collective worship, registration and wellbeing meetings, alongside live lessons, recorded teaching and other tasks. Small-group or individual Google Meets supported phonics, reading and multiplication tables. The catch-up programme was also delivered remotely to identified learners.

Children with Education, Health and Care Plans who were learning at home also had regular meetings with their Special Needs Assistant.

Keeping in touch

In 2021, families were encouraged to contact the class teacher or Miss Middleton with questions or requests for support.

Google Classroom was accessible using a range of Windows, Android and Apple devices, including tablets and phones. The original page also mentioned access through Xbox devices.

Emotional health & wellbeing

Children respond differently to change and uncertainty. Listening, talking together and making time for activities they enjoy can help children feel supported. If you are worried about your child, please speak to their class teacher or the school office.

Wellbeing information shared during lockdown

The COVID-19 pandemic affected everyone’s daily lives. Children’s responses could vary according to age, understanding, communication, previous experiences and how they coped with stress.

Families were encouraged to look after their mental health and seek support where needed. Children might experience worries, fear, difficulties sleeping or physical symptoms such as stomach ache.

The resources below were shared with families during that period.
