OUR CURRICULUM
Catholic Social Teaching is a rich treasure of wisdom about building a just society and living lives of holiness amidst the challenges of modern society. It is the Gospel in action, compassion on the pavement, and the deeply hallowed conviction that every person has inherent and transcendent worth, fashioned in the image and likeness of God. It provides a lens through which to examine the most vexing and complex problems and challenges in modern society…
Our curriculum intent reinforces our focus on Catholic Social Teaching, and aims to provide our children with the skills to become transformative members of society. Our Gospel Values basis reinforces British Values. We build the Kingdom through our curriculum…

‘Dear young people… The Lord wants to turn your hands, my hands, our hands, into signs of reconciliation, of communion, of creation. He wants your hands to continue building the world of today.’ Pope Francis
OUR CURRICULUM
Our Reception year follow the Early Years Framework. This is reflected in our curriculum maps.
We follow the National curriculum in KS1 & KS2, through the themes and areas outlined in our Curriculum Map documents.

Our Religious Education is based upon the model curriculum from the CES RE Directory, To Know You More Clearly, and uses a range of approved materials including the Diocese of Salford planning, Catholic Plus, Day by Day, The Vine and The Branches and Lighting the Path.
All classes integrate big questions linked to values and eco-opportunities into their planned curriculum, focusing on fundamental British Values & Gospel Values, and our remit to be Stewards of Creation as exemplified by Pope Francis in his encyclical, Laudato Si’.

Catholic social teaching built into our curriculum mapping, and follows a Building the Kingdom approach. This built upon our previous use of ‘Caritas in Action‘.

Education in Personal Relationships & Health (RHE): We use the scheme, Life to the Full, which is fully in accordance with the Church’s teaching. Taught with a spiral approach to learning, the programme includes teaching about personal health, physical and emotional well-being, strong emotions, private parts of the body, personal relationships, family structures, trusted adults, growing bodies, puberty, periods, life cycles, the dangers of social media, where babies come from, an understanding of the Common Good and living in the wider world. The entire teaching is underpinned with a Christian faith understanding that our deepest identity is as a child of God – created, chosen and loved by God. The programme is fully inclusive of all pupils and their families.
Further specific detail, class by class, is included in termly UNITE gatherings and class posters which can be found in the Virtual Office section of this website; and by reading our Curriculum Map.

Every year since 2010 we have an annual Film Fortnight, where we busily write scripts and prepare for the film days, when we also become boom and camera operators. When the film editing is finished, we hold a Premiere for our families to attend…
In October 2017, we considered the question – Guy Fawkes: Terrorist?
Who is the man who we remember the actions of every 5th November?
What is treason and plot? Was Guy Fawkes to blame? Was he a terrorist?
What can we learn from this historical event that influences our choices today?
Are there any modern day Guy Fawkes?
